As an AANHCP Natural Hoof Care Practitioner I regularly recommend lifestyle changes that replicate natural living conditions to clients.
The average livery option available to the majority of horse owners does not meet natural standards. The majority of problems I see in my clients horses are avoidable lifestyle based compromises.
My aim with the Natural Horse Centre is to offer an affordable practical livery option for horse owners that meets natural equine living standards.
As well as benefiting the horse there are human benefits too.
For many people, owning a horse is a leisure pursuit, a chance to unwind and spend time in nature. To take a few moments out, away from the pressures of everyday life.
As we strive to move toward a world based on harmony and simplicity these places of re-creation are all the more important.
The stress levels of the horses and the atmosphere that they live in is therefore integral to the overall "horse owner" experience.
As well as the obvious physical benefits, I'm convinced may horses would also appreciate a return to nature.
Being confined to a concrete or wooden 12'x12' box offering no more space than is offered to a dog in a car boot is unsustainable.
Unable to unwind and shake off stress the stabled horse is constantly on duty. Reduced movement also hinders digestion, muscular fitness and metabolic health. The resulting tension leading to compromised health and behavioural issues and stress and expense for the owner.
The Natural Horse Centre offers a strong message to the horse “using” community. It seeks to improve the other 90%, i.e. the portion of the day when the horse isn't being ridden. These servants of society I believe deserve time out and friends to do it with. We as custodians and beneficiaries should seek to meet their lifestyle needs with the care we provide.
